Woman witnessed man being stabbed before body found in concrete, court told

A woman has told a murder trial in Brisbane she witnessed Andrew Walsh being stabbed before his body was discovered wrapped in plastic and encased in concrete.

Jessica Noy admitted previously lying to police when she gave evidence at the murder trial of Joshua Searston, 27, and Dewald De Klerk, 30, at Brisbane Supreme Court yesterday.

However, she was adamant she had witnessed Searston stab, “skulldrag” and slap Walsh.

Searston and De Klerk have pleaded not guilty to murdering 35-year-old Walsh in November 2021.

His plastic-wrapped body was found encased in concrete at the bottom of an oil pit at a Coopers Plains transport depot in Brisbane’s south in February 2022, the court was previously told.

The jury yesterday was shown the transport depot’s layout that Noy had marked during a police interview in May 2022.

One marking on the layout indicated where Walsh, known as Ghost, was “skulldragged” out by Searston, Noy said.

Red markings also featured on the layout, which Noy said indicated blood trails after Walsh had been attacked.

Two blood trails led to stairs downstairs at the depot, the court was told.

“That’s where Ghost was stabbed,” Noy told the court.

“By who?” crown prosecutor Chris Cook asked.

Defence barrister Anna Cappellano quizzed Noy about her use of methamphetamine between August and November 2021.

Noy told the court she would have three or four shots per day, totalling 0.4 grams in a 24-hour period.

On the night of Walsh’s alleged murder she had consumed double her regular amount.

Asked by Cappellano if that would affect her recollection of events, Noy said “no”.

Cappellano then took Noy through her evidence at a 2023 pre-trial committal hearing where she said Searston stabbed Walsh with his right hand.

“Do you have a clear memory of what you saw,” she asked.

“I have a clear memory of Ghost being stabbed,” Noy replied.

“But you can’t say whether or not Josh used his left or right hand?” Capellano asked.

Cappellano put to Noy that her evidence at the pre-trial hearing, and statements given to police differed from what she was telling the court yesterday.

Noy admitted lying and providing inaccuracies when giving five police statements in 2022.

But when it was put to her Searston did not stab, “skulldrag” or slap Walsh, Noy rejected the claim.

The jury earlier heard Walsh’s body was found by police 2.5 metres into an oil pit at the depot, strapped to a toilet system, wrapped in plastic and encased in concrete.

His body had significant decomposition, nasal bone fracturing, dislodged teeth, fracturing around the right shoulder blade and collarbone along with abdomen stab wounds.
