DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) – Schlarman senior Peyton Kuemmerle was named the WCIA 3 Athlete of the Week on Thursday.
Those are Kuemmerle, a boys’ basketball standout, say his work ethic and attitude have stayed consistent while playing for four different head coaches in his high school career.
“I lead on the floor through offense and defense as well,” Kuemmerle said. “Like in our zone, I shout out like what to do and what on offense I shout out what to do. I just try and help my teammates whenever I can.”
Averaging nearly 14 points per game as a senior, the latest WCIA 3 Athlete of the Week has played a big role in helping the Hilltoppers reach the regional championship.
“He makes me look good a lot,” Schlarman head coach Zack Patterson said. “He mixes simple plays, easy plays, just real coachable kid, never late does all the right things on and off the court. Starting a program, you know you’re building a house. He’s a cornerstone, the program cornerstone of the house for the future. If we could have like five Peytons, that’d be great.”
Schlarman host La Salette on Friday at 7 p.m. for a regional final game.
