EDGEFIELD COUNTY, S.C. () – The South Carolina Law Enforcement announced two people were arrested this month in connection to the death of 41-year-old Derrick Coleman back in 2022.

According to SLED, Bernard Montreze Chinn, 31, has been charged with Murder, Removal of Human Remains, and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime on Feb. 14. Keyona Shauntay Butler, 28, was charged with Accessory After the Fact to Murder on Feb. 14.

Arrest warrants show Chinn is accused of shooting Coleman multiple times with a firearm on Nov. 1, 2022. The warrants allege Chinn loaded Coleman’s body into the rear compartment of an SUV and before placing the body in a manhole in Johnston, S.C. Coleman’s body was located days later on Nov. 4.

Warrants state that Butler allegedly assisted in the removal of Coleman’s body from the scene of the shooting.

Both Chinn and Butler were booked into the Edgefield County Detention Center.

The case is set to be prosecuted by the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
