A New Mexico woman who was recently accused of child abuse was found shot in her home.
Patricia Madrid, 36, was found in her home on Feb. 26 suffering from gunshot wounds, according to a press release from the Farmington Police Department. She was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. Just over one week ago, on Feb. 18, Madrid and Jammy Jackson, 59, were both arrested and charged with child abuse and several other felonies after their 15-year-old daughter claimed that her parents locked her in a chicken coop.
Police stated that they responded to reports of a shooting at a residence in Farmington before 8 a.m. on Feb. 26. They found Madrid and paramedics treated her for gunshot wounds at the scene before bringing her to San Juan Regional Medical Center, where she “succumbed to her injuries.” The release made no mention of the previous accusations against Madrid and no mention of her children or Jackson.
The Farmington Police Department released surveillance video from the morning of the shooting that included a person of interest — a figure in a gray hoodie who can be seen in the 30-second video walking away from and then into a wooded area. Another photo released by police reportedly showed the same figure “headed east on Navajo Street towards Lincoln Avenue on a bicycle.” Police believe that the photo and video captured the person after the shooting and before police arrived on the scene.
Madrid and Jackson were previously booked into the San Juan County Detention Center on 14 felony charges each, including abuse of a child and conspiracy to commit child abuse. Their 15-year-old daughter, who was removed from their custody, claimed that her parents kept her locked in a chicken coop in inclement weather, only let her use the bathroom twice a day, and fed her only ramen noodles while letting her siblings have whatever they wanted.
