TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tampa General Hospital announced on Friday that it will be converting one of its locations into a veterans-only primary care clinic.

According to a release, the primary care clinic located at 2106 South Lois Avenue will serve as a center allocated for Military and veteran resources and needs.

“Tampa General is committed to serving the health and wellness of these patients,” said Adam Smith, executive vice president & chief ambulatory officer at Tampa General Hospital. “Combat and military service often creates invisible wounds that can lead to lifelong health effects. We have developed this MVP center in partnership with advocacy organizations to help establish a sense of unity and shared understanding between patients and providers, and to increase access to quality healthcare for these extraordinary patients.”

Tampa General teamed up with local resource group Home Base, to staff the new MVP clinic, which will provide focused care for current service members and veterans.

Together, the team at Tampa General and the Home Base group have provided staff with specialized training regarding PTSD and behavioral health advocacy in general for veterans.

The Lois Avenue care center, which began accepting patients this month, will undergo a phased-in transitory approach.
