CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) – Illinois women’s basketball is resting up, with a rare six-day break in between games, ahead of its final game of the regular season.

Sunday’s meeting with Michigan is a big one for multiple reasons. First, it’s senior day for a group which played an integral part in turning around this Illini program.

“It’s just an amazing group of, first off just, people, that have been loyal, who have believed,” Illinois head women’s basketball coach Shauna Green said. “Never waivered, just continued to fight, they believed in the one way approach.”

Seniors Adalia McKenzie, Brynn Shoup-Hill, Geneis Bryant, Makira Cook and Kendall Bostic will be honored after the game.

Plus, the regular season finale has postseason implications for Green’s group. Illinois is seeking a top-four seed, which would come with a double-bye, in the Big Ten tournament.

“If you can finish in the top four in the league, it’s a huge win in itself,” Green said. “We got to get it done… If you told us a couple months ago probably would’ve maybe thought you’re crazy. But these guys just continue to amaze me and everyone of their fight and their togetherness.”

Tip-off between Illinois and Michigan in women’s hoops will be at State State Farm Center and is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 2. The game is expected to air on Big Ten Network. Illinois men’s basketball plays at Michigan the same day, starting at 2:45 p.m.
