CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Illinois Department of Transportation is closing the westbound Interstate 74 ramp to southbound I-57 in Champaign this weekend.
Starting overnight on Sunday, the ramp will be closed.
This is to allow crews to complete the I-74 bridge over I-57 as well as underneath the bridge. Officials said it will be closed until late summer or early fall.
IDOT will mark a detour including the new I-74 ramp to northbound I-57 and then exiting at Market St. Then drivers will enter southbound I-57 at Market St., where there will be temporary signals placed. The next exit available is in Mahomet.
Officials warn that motorists should prepare for delays and take extra time for trips. They also say to pay attention to signs, follow posted speed limits, keep off mobile devices and stay alert for workers.
