Sheriff Michelle Cook said email addresses, locations and phone numbers were potentially exposed.

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Clay County’s SaferWatch app is down after an apparent glitch on Saturday, according to Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook. The sheriff’s office is shutting the app down until further notice.

Cook stated on social media around 11:30 a.m. that there was no need to call 911 or the sheriff’s office about the app being down and that the agency was aware of the issue.

“We apologize for any inconvenience,” she stated. “We are working to address this now.”

Cook said later on Saturday she was upset that information was “potentially exposed.” She said the app was not down due to a hack after talking with the app’s owner.

Cook said email addresses, locations and phone numbers were potentially exposed.

“They [SaferWatch] assured me that subscribers’ private information (give by subscribers when they sign up) is of the utmost importance and should not ever be disclosed,” Cook said in an update on the situation.

SaferWatch said the issues were resolved in under 30 minutes, and its system had resumed normal operations.

Cook said they are holding any SaferWatch messaging for a couple days to ensure there are no more glitches. She said officials would look into setting up SaferWatch again next week.

The sheriff’s office said officials will continue to post emergency messages on their social media pages and will make sure the public is aware of any potential issues.

Cook provided a statement from SaferWatch on the incident, which can be viewed below:
