GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Malik Ny’kei Wilson, 27, was arrested yesterday after allegedly pulling out a gun in the parking lot of Carver Gardens Apartments and breaking items inside his girlfriend’s apartment.

A Gainesville Police Department officer responded to Carver Gardens (1101 SE 15th Street) at about 4:49 p.m. on February 28, where the victim said she had met Wilson at her apartment to give him her car, but he went inside and started throwing dishes around her apartment, causing about $50 in damage.

The victim reportedly stayed outside while Wilson was breaking things inside the apartment, and Wilson allegedly came outside holding a handgun, opened the car door, and told her to get out of the car; he reportedly held the gun down by his side and did not point it at her. A friend reportedly stepped between the victim and Wilson, and Wilson allegedly went back inside the apartment and broke more items.

A search of the victim’s apartment reportedly produced a 9mm handgun with an extended magazine, hidden in an ottoman in the living room, and a Highpoint 9mm rifle that had been placed on a bed. The officer also reported finding broken dishes on the floor and a hole in a door in the hallway.

Post Miranda, Wilson reportedly admitted that he was holding a handgun when he told the victim to get out of the car and that he regularly carries a gun for protection. He reportedly admitted breaking dishes in the victim’s apartment because he was upset with the way she spoke to him and said he put the handgun in the ottoman and was holding the rifle for “someone.”

Wilson has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and property damage under $200. He has one felony (violent). A sworn complaint was filed in January for a similar incident against the same victim in October 2024, but the charges were dropped a few weeks ago. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $5,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
