SULLIVAN, Ill. (WCIA) — A barn in Sullivan containing hay and tractor equipment caught fire on Saturday.

Around 20 firefighters responded from multiple different departments. Crews with the Sullivan Fire Protection District were called to the barn, located near County Road 1200 East, between County Roads 1600N and 1500N, around 5 p.m.

When the firefighters arrived, they saw a heavy fire coming from a barn. Bethany, Lovington and Arthur fire crews were called to help extinguish the fire.

According to the Sullivan FPD, fire crews had to spread out the hay, and then spray it down to extinguish the blaze. If they just tried to spray the hay bales down, it would have been more difficult to put out.

The firefighters were able to clear the scene around 10 p.m. The barn was a total loss, but no injuries were reported.
