The father-of-two was killed in an alleged hit and run on Saturday morning just metres from his house.

A newspaper delivery man found the 45-year-old unresponsive on the road.

“We residents here are just devastated that your life has been taken, for a person who’s done so much for the community,” Neighbour Sandy Austin said.

Murray was a lover of the arts.

“Jamie was a stalwart in our local community theatre scene,” Primadonna Productions said.

“He had been a friendly face at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre for more than two decades and will be sorely missed.”

Friend Gisell Barb said the father-of-two’s death “just broke us” and “he didn’t deserve this”.

“They were his world, he lived for those children,” she said.

“It’s going to be very hard growing up without Jamie in their lives.”

Police say it was a grey Kia Rio hatchback that hit Murray.

Officers tracked down the alleged driver to a home on the same street.

The woman has been charged with with failing to stop and ensure assistance was received after an incident occasioning death and failing to report an incident occasioning death or grievous bodily harm.

She will front court later this month.
