BLUFF CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Sullivan County Board of Education (BOE) unanimously passed a resolution connected to Gov. Bill Lee’s Education Freedom Scholarship Act, commonly referred to as the school voucher program. That provision allows county school teachers to receive a one-time bonus of “no less than $2,000.”
The one-time bonus provision is officially known as Section 4 of the voucher program, where a school board must officially affirm its intention to participate in the provision by June 1 to receive those state funds.
The BOE unanimously approved the resolution to allow county teachers to receive the bonus.
However, the school board maintained Monday night that it still does not agree with Gov. Lee’s voucher program as a whole; it only approved its intent to participate in Section 4 of the act. The bonuses are solely state-funded.
