Millie Bobby Brown calls out ‘bullying’ of her appearance: ‘I refuse to apologize for growing up’

Millie Bobby Brown fired back at the “disturbing” discourse about her physical appearance after she was criticized for looking “old” at the “Electric State” premiere last week.

“I want to take a moment to address something that I think is bigger than just me, something that affects every young woman who grows up under public scrutiny,” the “Enola Holmes” actress said in a video shared to Instagram Monday.

“I started in this industry when I was 10 years old. I grew up in front of the world, and for some reason, people can’t seem to grow with me.”

Brown, now 21, claimed her critics expect her to “stay frozen in time” and still look the way she did in the first season of “Stranger Things.”

“And because I don’t, I’m now a target,” the “Enola Holmes” star added, referring to her evolution into a young adult.

She also called out several headlines and reporters for “mocking a young woman’s appearance.”

“The fact that adult writers are spending their time dissecting my face, my body, my choices, it’s disturbing,” the British starlet continued.

She also emphasized that it’s “even worse” that some of the articles are being written by women.

“Disillusioned people can’t handle seeing a girl become a woman on her terms, not theirs,” Brown said of the haters.

“I refuse to apologize for growing up. I refuse to make myself smaller to fit the unrealistic expectations of people who can’t handle seeing a girl become a woman.”

She went on to declare that she will not be “shamed” for how she looks, dresses or presents herself to the world.

“We have become a society where it’s so much easier to criticize than it is to pay a compliment,” Brown argued, before asking everyone to “do better.”

“Not just for me, but for every young girl who deserves to grow up without fear of being torn apart for simply existing,” she concluded the lengthy post.

Last week, Brown also called out the commentary on her appearance after attending the “Electric State” premiere with her husband, Jake Bongiovi.

“@britishvogue thank you,” she captioned a screenshot of a British Vogue article with the headline: “No One Cares How Old You Think Millie Bobby Brown Looks.”

Many believe Brown recently underwent a dramatic makeover in a bid to secure the role of Britney Spears in the pop star’s upcoming biopic.

Brown debuted a platinum blond makeover in early February — weeks before her 21st birthday — which led to comparisons to the “Toxic” songstress.

The Florence by Mills founder previously faced criticism over her appearance in late December 2024 when fans compared her to a “40-year-old Jersey housewife.”

“women grow!!” the actress clapped back on her Instagram Story. “not sorry about it :).”
