LINCOLN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Lincoln Rural Fire Protection District has issued a notice for individuals wanting to conduct controlled and prescribed burns.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Lincoln Fire explained that these burns are becoming more frequent as the weather gets warmer. Some of the controlled burns that will take place are the annual burns conducted at Kickapoo Park in Lincoln.

The district is urging people planning on doing controlled burns to call in before, either to the fire department at 217-732-6697 or Logan Dispatch at 217-732-2151 and selecting option one so the burn can be logged.

Lincoln Fire is also recommending that residents stay with their controlled burns because conditions can change, and fires can easily spread quickly.
