Premier Jacinta Allan insists she will fix the state’s bail rules, but a recent victim of crime is dismissing the vow as lip service.

Mother-of-two Adele Andrews was left terrified after machete-wielding thieves broke into her Melbourne home while her family slept early yesterday morning.

“Something is very, very wrong and I don’t know what it’s going to take for something to change,” Andrews said.

“Bring consequences to these thugs that are going about doing this night after night with no consequences.

“Nothing’s being done, there’s a lot of lip service.”

Allan has insisted she is listening and acting on the issue.

“There were changes that have been made, that we’ll need to address, we’ll have more to say soon very soon,” Allan said.

“This is my top priority to get this work done.”

The opposition believes that’s up for debate, saying the Attorney-General spent much of last week on a publicity tour as planning minister with the premier to spruik housing reforms.

Parliament is this week debating control of weapons laws.

The opposition’s pushing an amendment that would ban machetes completely, but Labor is not expected to back that.

“This should be a line in the sand moment for Jacinta Allan,” shadow police minister David Southwick said.

The premier said she preferred to wait for advice from her own side.

“I’m looking at what more needs to be done.”
