Kimberly Stratum, 60, is charged with murder and arson in the death of 67-year-old Lee Payne, who died after police say he was set on fire.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 60-year-old Jacksonville woman is now facing a murder charge after a 67-year-old man died of severe burns in December.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says that Kimberly Stratum was arrested in November 2024 for attempted murder of the victim, Lee Payne, when he was found with severe burns inside a home on Alexandra Drive in the Biscayne area of Jacksonville.
At the time, Stratum was arrested at the scene and Payne was taken to a burn unit in Gainesville.
In December 2024, Payne died of his injuries and the Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death a homicide.
JSO says that after an investigation, the charges against Stratum have been upgraded to murder and arson.
She has been behind bars at the Duval County Jail and will stay there pending trial.
“We will continue to work with the State Attorney’s Office on this case to bring justice to Payne’s loved ones,” JSO said in a statement.
