It’s Khloé Kardashian‘s 40th birthday in this week’s episode of The Kardashians, which dedicates the entire 47 minutes to celebrating the fan-favorite sister. Ready to leave the baggage of her 30s behind, the Good American founder gets to ring in another decade with a Denim & Diamonds party featuring Snoop Dogg and a winery trip with her lifelong BFF Malika Haqq.

It’s during her road trip with Haqq that Kardashian comes to the realization that some of her baggage might follow her into her 40s — like Tristan Thompson, the father of her two children who infamously cheated on her multiple times.

“True thinks me and Tristan are married,” Kardashian says of her and Thompson’s six-year-old daughter, noting that she wants to teach True that the “right thing to do” is “get married” then “have kids.”

There’s only one thing that bothers Kardashian about True thinking she’s married to Thompson — and it has nothing to do with his many cheating scandals.

“I don’t want True going through life thinking this is what a marriage is — that, oh, you’re married to someone and they don’t live with you and you never have to kiss them or you don’t sleep in the same bed together,” she explains.

“I would love my kids to see me have a husband one day and I would love them to see love and affection and romance. I do want them to have that. And when she’s older, I can explain it to her,” she continues. “But right now, I believe you do things for your kids because kids should not be involved in adult problems.”

Mere days before Kardashian gave birth to True in 2018, Thompson was caught kissing another woman. While Kardashian took him back at the time, he was ultimately caught cheating on her once again in 2019, this time with Kylie Jenner’s best friend Jordyn Woods.

The couple reconciled sometime after spending the COVID-19 lockdown together in 2020, though their relationship officially ended in December 2021 when personal trainer Maralee Nichols revealed he had fathered her baby. The news broke one month after Kardashian and Thompson’s second child, Tatum, was conceived via surrogate.
