SAVANNAH, Ga. () — The Savannah High boys basketball team can claim its first state title in the George Brown era with a win on Mar. 7 in Macon.
Savannah High was ranked No. 1 in the state for Class A Division II for the majority of the season.
The Bluejackets really have not been tested in the state playoffs. Their last challenge came in the region championship game on Feb. 14 against McIntosh County Academy. They won at the buzzer, 48-45, thanks to a Maki-Joyner 3-point field goal.
McIntosh and Savannah High have played three times this year with Savannah High holding a 2-1 series lead. They will also play in the state championship for the fourth meeting. The winner will walk out of the Macon Coliseum as a state champion.
“This is my expectation and the expectation is actually for us to win,” head coach George Brown said. “And so we were here last year. So it’s good for these guys to get over the hump of where we went last year. But now we got to win it. State championship or bust.”
Class A Division II state championship game between Savannah High and McIntosh County Academy is March 7 at 3 p.m. at the Macon Coliseum.
