After the Oscars hand out their last awards, Hollywood’s biggest stars make their way to the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, the annual afterparty that sees even reality TV stars like the Kardashians attend.

Selena Gomez was one of those A-listers who attended both events after her film, Emilia Pérez, was up for several Academy Awards. Hailey Bieber, who is married to Justin Bieber, Selena’s famous ex, also attended the lavish afterparty, but both women appeared to keep their distance.

Surprisingly, Selena’s lack of acknowledgment towards Hailey at the event had nothing to do with any long-running feud between them.

Both Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber looked stunning when they posed on the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscar Party carpet. In fact, they both wore black dresses, with the songstress wearing a custom black sequin gown by Armani Privé, while the Rhode founder wore a vintage Saint Laurent dress.

However, reports suggest that Selena kept her distance from Hailey, despite the two women having put rumors of a feud to rest years prior. According to a source from Life & Style, the Rare Beauty founder wanted to make sure that tabloids wouldn’t use their potential encounter against them, and spin yet another story. There hasn’t been a day when Selena and Hailey haven’t been pitted against each other.

“Selena looked gorgeous and felt amazing at the Oscars and she wasn’t going to let anything ruin her special night. She’s gotten a lot better at avoiding drama and that means falling into any traps that could cause any negative buzz or unnecessary anxiety for her,” the insider shared.

“So yes, while she didn’t obsess about it, avoiding a potential Hailey Bieber viral moment was in the back of her head. It’s not always possible, but she’s learned to avoid potentially awkward moments. If she had bumped into her, she definitely would have said hello.”

However, the insider claimed that Selena and Hailey are on good terms, and it was only a matter of putting herself first. “So, not putting herself in a situation like that is just about self-care and not giving haters any ammunition,” they shared.

Rumors of a feud between the two women began when Hailey entered into a relationship and married Justin just mere months after Selena and Justin split in 2018, after an eight-year on-and-off relationship. Selena fans accused Hailey of being the other woman, but Hailey denied hooking up with him while he was dating Selena.

The women have taken to social media countless times to deny any rumors of a feud. However, people continuously pit them against each other.

Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber Put Feud Rumors To Rest When They Posed For Photos Together In 2022

Although Selena reportedly wanted to avoid Hailey at the Oscars afterparty so that tabloids wouldn’t perpetuate yet another narrative about the two women, they did pose for photos in 2022.

Both Selena and Hailey attended the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’ 2nd annual gala in October and shocked fans when they took photos together inside the event. It marked the first time the women took photos with one another in a public setting. It also put any feud rumors to rest.

A source for Entertainment Tonight shared that “Selena and Hailey were both super chill together at the Academy Museum Gala. They’ve both moved on and are happy in their own lives. They wanted to show the world that there’s no beef or bad feelings between them anymore.”

The moment came two weeks after Hailey appeared on Call Her Daddy where she addressed speculation about her and Justin’s relationship timeline. As mentioned earlier, Justin and Selena split in March 2018, but by June, he began dating Hailey and the next month, the two became engaged.

“I can say, period, point blank, I was never with him when he was in a relationship with anybody — that’s the end of it,” Hailey stated. She also told host Alex Cooper that she and Selena had spoken privately. “I respect her a lot…There’s no drama personally.”

It’s incredibly disheartening that both Selena and Hailey constantly need to address rumors of a feud. In fact, there have even been several occasions in which Selena had to tell her own fans to stop sending hate messages, including death threats, to Hailey on social media.

In 2023, Selena and Hailey appeared to be caught up in TikTok drama that even included Kylie Jenner, but when Hailey began receiving very scary threats to her life, she reached out to the songstress. Selena decided to share the news with her millions of followers:

“Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity. This isn’t what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying. I’ve always advocated for kindness and really want this all to stop. ♥️”

Hailey later posted her own message to her fans, stating that she and Selena were “discussing the last few weeks how to move past this ongoing narrative between her and I.” The two then decided to follow one another on Instagram.

That same year, Hailey was interviewed by Bloomberg’s The Circuit, in which she was asked about the on-going alleged feud. “This is not about this pitting between two women — it’s about the vile, disgusting hatred that can come from completely made-up and twisted, and perpetuated narratives that can be really dangerous.”

Hailey went on to state that it was unbelievable that people would put two successful women against each other over a man. “I hate it. I’ve hated it since the beginning and it goes back to being misunderstood. Time and time again I say there is no issue and it’s so disappointing that people still behave this way over a man.”
