JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A person was sent to the hospital and multiple families were displaced after a massive fire at a Mandarin apartment complex Thursday evening, according to a spokesperson with the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department (JFRD).
Capt. Eric Prosswimmer with JFRD said crews responded to calls of heavy fire and smoke Thursday evening around 6 p.m. at The Waterford apartments in Mandarin.
Prosswimmer said as many as eight apartment units were damaged and 31 people in the building displaced after crews shut off all power to the building.
One person was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The American Red Cross said they are providing emergency assistance to 34 people.
Crews are working to learn the cause of the fire.
