A Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said the 54-year-old man worked in JSO’s Services Division on a part-time basis.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 54-year-old man employed part-time by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) is facing DUI charges Thursday after JSO said he crashed into construction equipment in Jacksonville’s Argyle Forrest neighborhood Thursday afternoon.

Officer Christian Hancock with JSO said Thomas Turbeville was arrested on multiple counts of driving under the influence and resisting arrest after crashing into a parked excavator around 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the 8000 block of Coralberry Lane.

Hancock said an officer responded to the crash, noticing a strong odor of alcohol coming from Turbeville’s car. When asked to give details on the crash, Hancock said Turbeville refused to give a statement, prompting the officer to ask for additional officers to respond to the scene.

When more officers arrived, they noticed Turbeville asleep at the wheel. Officers noticed he was slurring his words and stumbling as he exited the car, Hancock said, adding that he was “very uncooperative” while interacting with officers.

A DUI officer was requested and arrived on scene, ordering Turbeville out of the car several times and resisting officers’ attempts to remove him, Hancock said.

Turbeville was arrested and sent to the pre-trial detention facility.

Hancock said Turbeville was a part-time employee with JSO’s Services Division at the time of his arrest. He was not working and was driving his personal car at the time, Hancock said.
