Brute stabs straphanger in the eye at Union Square subway station

Someone who was acting crazy attacked a subway passenger in the eye at a subway station in lower Manhattan early on Saturday. The police are seeking help from the public as they search for the violent person responsible.

The victim, a 57-year-old man, was at the 14th Street-Union Square station around 12:46 a.m. when he got into a verbal argument with the male attacker, as per the NYPD.

Police said the suspect rammed an unknown sharp object into the victim’s right eye before fleeing the station on foot.

Video footage from security cameras, which was made public by the authorities, shows the young-looking attacker walking calmly and checking behind him before hopping over the subway turnstile. He was carrying a brown paper bag and a black object that is not identified.

The suspect was wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, a black leather jacket, black gloves, dark-colored pants and white sneakers, the footage shows.

First responders transported the victim to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue for treatment in stable condition, police said.

It was not known if the attacker and the victim knew each other.
