Seven Illini wrestlers qualify for NCAA, two headed to Big Ten finals

EVANSTON, Ill. (WCIA) — Seven of the ten Illini wrestlers who made the trip to the Big Ten Championships have received bids to the NCAA Championship, with two wrestlers still in the running for conference titles.

Kannon Webster and Lucas Byrd won their semifinal matches and will wrestle for conference titles on Sunday. Byrd defeated Maryland’s Braxton Brown in the 133-pound semifinal, and Webster defeated top-seeded Shane Van Ness in the 149-pound semifinal.

Braeden Scoles (165 lbs.), Danny Braunagel (174 lbs.), Edmond Ruth (184 lbs.), Zac Braunagel (197 lbs.), and Luke Luffman (285 lbs.) qualified for the NCAA Championships based on their performances.
