(NEXSTAR) — Raceway is always known for producing incredible finishes, and Saturday’s GOVX 200 in the Xfinity Series was no different.

It seemed like Alex Bowman, racing at his home track in the No. 17 car for Hendrick Motorsports, was going to run away with this race before an incredible overtime finish shook things up.

In the end, Aric Almirola emerged victorious in the 200 after Bowman’s dominance early on in stage one.

The crowd saw some fireworks in stage two involving Austin Hill, Dean Thompson and Sheldon Creed.

All of them would be done for the day, with Hill simply dumbfounded afterward.

“I think that might be one of the dumbest things that’s ever happened to me in my career,” Hill said. “I was looking to the left at the wall, and I didn’t realize the 8 [car] was that close to it. Right when I went to just barely get out from his sight of view, it was already too late.”

Later on in stage two, reigning Xfinity Series champion Justin Allgaier made a move through Bowman and Almirola in order to take the lead and ultimately win the stage, setting up for a dominant green flag run to begin stage three.

But then, with just four laps to go, a late caution would come out, forcing an overtime restart.

Allgaier started with the lead off the restart, but Bowman took the lead shortly after, trying to get that win at his home track.

In the end, Almirola snuck past Bowman at the end, beating him by just 4/100ths of a second to get his first career win at Phoenix.

“When you get in those moments there at the end and you got a green-white-checkered, it’s like you just go for it,” Almirola said. “In my position really, you know, we don’t really care about good points. That’s all we care about is winning every time.”

This is Almirola’s eighth career Xfinity Series victory in the number 18 car for Joe Gibbs Racing.

Eyes now look to the next race in the Xfinity Series, taking place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday, March 15th.

The race begins at 4:30 p.m. ET and can be seen on The CW.
