FHP troopers said Richard Keil, the driver of the golf cart, was found to be impaired during an incident that killed a 60-year-old woman from Illinois.
SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — A 60-year-old woman from Illinois died from her injuries after she fell out of a moving golf cart in Florida. The driver, a 58-year-old man from The Villages, is being charged with DUI manslaughter.
The incident happened around 12:49 a.m. in Sumter County, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release. The driver, Richard Keil, was reportedly heading north in the cart on San Marino Drive with the woman in the passenger’s seat.
At the intersection of Santa Clara Circle, troopers said Keil had to swerve to avoid a parked car. During that maneuver, the woman fell out of the cart, suffering serious injuries.
The 60-year-old woman died from those injuries after she was taken to a nearby hospital, FHP said. During the investigation, Keil was found to be impaired before he was arrested.
