George Clooney looked as if he was in the throes of a mid-life crisis while out in New York City on Sunday.

The 63-year-old actor was spotted grabbing lunch with his wife Amal Clooney when he debuted a startling new look — a head of dyed-brown hair.

After having dinner at the French restaurant Raoul’s, Clooney and his 47-year-old wife were spotted with their attorney friend Kevin Johnson.

While many celebrities opt for hair dye to maintain a youthful appearance, it seems that Clooney’s new hairstyle is related to his upcoming Broadway debut in the adaptation of his 2005 film, Good Night, And Good Luck, where he served as writer, director, and actor.

Clooney maintained his trademark style, looking effortlessly cool in a sporty black leather jacket, beige chinos, and classic black-and-white Adidas trainers.

He covered up with a dark pair of sunglasses, and he carried a large black backpack as he was seen getting into a white SUV after lunch.

Clooney and his 47-year-old wife were seen just after a lunch at the French restaurant Raoul’s, where they dined with their attorney friend Kevin Johnson. She looked chic in a cropped plaid jacket, chunky sunglasses and bell-bottom jeans

Amal looked as fashionable as ever in a cropped brown plaid jacket with wide peaked lapels.

She dressed it down with a set of newly in-vogue high-waisted bell bottoms, which nearly covered her shoes.

The lauded human rights lawyer wore a chunky pair of sunglasses and long, dangling earrings that were framed by her voluminous brunette locks, which she had lightened to the point that her hair was nearly the same shade as her husband’s new brown hair.

George appeared to have recently dyed his hair, as he appeared to still have his iconic silver hair when he was spotted late last month in New York City, though he wore a hat on that outing.

In the new play, the actor and filmmaker will be starring as the legendary journalist Edward R. Murrow, who notably did have visible gray hair during the period Clooney will be playing him.

In his 2005 film, David Strathairn had played the lead role, while Clooney took a supporting role as CBS President Fred Friendly, in addition to working behind the camera.

The movie, which was shot in black-and-white, focused on Murrow’s reports on Senator Joseph McCarthy’s unfounded claims of communist infiltration in the US government, leading to a fiery confrontation between the two men on Murrow’s CBS broadcast ahead of the senator’s humiliation at the Army–McCarthy hearings and subsequent censure from the Senate.

The all-star cast also included Robert Downey Jr., Jeff Daniels, Patricia Clarkson, Frank Langella and Twin Peaks star Ray Wise.

Clooney’s film was a hit at the box office, grossing $54.6 million against a $7 million budget, and it earned six Oscar nominations, though it went home empty-handed.

In addition to taking over the lead role in Good Night, And Good Luck as his Broadway debut, Clooney has a high-profile film in the works.

He’s set to star in the ensemble feature dramedy Jay Kelly, marking his first appearance in a film directed by Barbie co-writer Noah Baumbach.

Clooney will be part of a massive case of A-listers, including Adam Sandler, Laura Dern, Billy Crudup, Riley Keough, Jim Broadbent, Baumbach’s wife Greta Gerwig and Emily Mortimer, who co-wrote the screenplay with Baumbach.

Few details have been revealed about the film, which will be released by Netflix, though it is reportedly a coming-of-age film.

Netflix hasn’t revealed the release strategy for later this year, but the streamer has previously given Baumbach’s films a limited theatrical release prior to their debut on the service.

Prior to his work with Gerwig on Barbie, Baumbach wrote and directed the Don DeLillo adaptation White Noise, the Oscar winner Marriage Story and The Meyerowitz Stories for Netflix.
