Colin Jost Mocked on ‘SNL’ for Making Less Money Than Scarlett Johansson

Colin Jost should feel “shame” for making less money than his wife, Scarlett Johansson — or so says “Lord Gaga,” the fictional SNL husband of Lady Gaga.

The character (played by SNL cast member Mikey Day) joined Jost on Saturday, March 8, for Weekend Update. After he assured a surprised Jost that there was in fact a Lord Gaga, Day added, “How do you think she became a lady? She married a lord. That’s how she became Gaga, whereas I was simply ‘Born This Way.’”

Day’s Lord Gaga then told Jost he is bemused by Lady Gaga’s career, especially since he sees music as a hobby. He added that he didn’t think Lady Gaga could possibly make more money than he does in textiles.

Lord Gaga then commented on the idea that a wife could ever make more money than her husband — something that is a reality for Jost.

“Can you imagine, Colin, a man whose wife makes more money than he?” Lord Gaga asked, pretending to be aghast. “Can you imagine? Oh, the shame he would feel!”

Jost then turned toward the camera and made it clear he was in on the joke. “Imagine, Colin, if I were sitting here on television behind this desk, staring at that camera, the world staring back at me knowing that my wife’s income dwarfs my own! I would die,” Lord Gaga continued. “Oh, I would die! What a living nightmare! What a nightmare!”

After he pulled himself together, Lord Gaga politely inquired, “Oh, I’m sorry. Now tell me, what does your wife do?”

Johansson is one of Hollywood’s highest-paid actresses and currently commands $10-20 million per film she makes. Jost’s exact income is unknown, but the highest salary on SNL is $25,000 per episode.

Colin Jost Gets Embarrassed to Read 'SNL' Joke About Wife Scarlett Johansson's Body

’Tis the season for the annual Saturday Night Live joke swap on “Weekend Update,” and Michael Che couldn’t let the moment pass without including a reference to Colin Jost’s wife, Scarlett Johansson. “Oh, God,” Jost, 41, quipped on Saturday, May 18, when he first saw his wife’s name pop up on the teleprompter before continuing. […]

Jost and Johansson quietly wed in October 2020. Meals on Wheels announced the news on Instagram, where the organization wrote, “We’re thrilled to break the news that Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost were married over the weekend in an intimate ceremony with their immediate family and loved ones, following COVID-19 safety precautions as directed by the CDC.”

“Their wedding wish is to help make a difference for vulnerable older adults during this difficult time by supporting @mealsonwheelsamerica. Please consider donating to celebrate the happy couple,” the organization added.
