What to know about St. Johns County and JEA's seasonal watering restrictions

Until November, St. Johns County residents can no longer water their yards from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will have scheduled days when watering is allowed.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — St. Johns County officials are reminding residents that as daylight saving time begins, so do seasonal watering restrictions.

While residents can now water their lawns twice a week, officials ask that irrigation not be based on a fixed schedule but on a landscape’s need. Officials say this is because as temperatures rise, water evaporates faster, prompting an increased need for irrigation.

In contrast, during cooler seasons, residents are limited to a once per week watering because increased rainfall reduces the need for frequent watering.

Overall, the restrictions are designed to conserve water and promote healthier landscapes. Officials encourage residents and businesses to adjust their watering practices based on seasonal conditions and only water when necessary to reduce stress on local water reserves.

The public water supply is the county’s largest water use, with a large portion of the supply allocated to outdoor irrigation, officials said. Adjusting irrigation schedules conserves water and benefits plant health by reducing the risks of mold, fungus, weak roots, weed and pests.

Beginning Sunday through Nov. 2, 2025, residents can no longer water their yards from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to help minimize evaporation and promote soil absorption.
