A 38-year-old man in New Jersey is accused of killing his wife, who police say was found dead inside of their home with blood on her face and a belt around her neck.

Gustavo Juarez-Perez was taken into custody on Saturday and charged with one count each of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon in the slaying of Cheyanne Juarez, authorities announced.

According to a news release from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, officers with the South Toms River Police Department at about 9:15 p.m. on Saturday responded to a call about an unconscious female at a residence on Hummel Drive, which is just over 50 miles east of Philadelphia.

Upon arriving at the scene, first responders said they entered the home and found an unresponsive female — later identified as Juarez — unconscious on the floor “with blood on her face and a belt around her neck.”

Emergency medical personnel attempted lifesaving measures on the victim but were unsuccessful. Juarez was pronounced dead on the scene.

“A thorough investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, South Toms River Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, revealed that Gustavo Juarez-Perez was the individual responsible for his wife’s death,” prosecutors wrote in the release. “Juarez-Perez was taken into custody at the residence without incident.”
