Hawaii child sexual assault suspect arrested by Unicoi police

UNICOI COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Unicoi Police Department arrested a man who was wanted on several sex crime charges out of Hawaii.

The Unicoi Police Department, with assistance from the Erwin Police Department, served felony indictments Monday on Joel Bladimir Mendez Gomez, 27, according to a release from Unicoi police.

The police department said it received a request from the Hawaii County district attorney’s office in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

Gomez is wanted in Hawaii County on charges of continuous sexual assault of a minor under the age of 14, five counts of sexual assault in the third degree, and two charges of attempted sexual assault in the third degree, according to the release.

The Unicoi Police Department also charged Gomez with being a fugitive from justice.
