LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Nevada Attorney General’s Office has charged 20 people in connection with the murder of three inmates in a state prison last year.

Connor Brown, 22; Zackaria Luz, 43; and Anthony Williams, 41, all died from “multiple sharp force injuries” during the fight inside the Ely State Prison on July 30, 2024, 8 News Now reported last year.

Luz and Williams were two of 23 Aryan Warriors, members of a white supremacist gang, charged as part of an earlier investigation. Williams faced additional charges for killing Andrew Thurgood, 26, inside a cell at High Desert State Prison in 2016. Brown was in prison on a robbery charge, records said.

Five other inmates were injured in the fight.

Charges against the 20 defendants include first-degree murder and attempted murder with gang enhancements, prosecutors said.

“The pursuit of justice does not stop at the prison gates, and those responsible for the
deaths of the three inmates at Ely State Prison will be held accountable,” Democratic Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford said in a news release. “We remain committed to ensuring that violence and misconduct within our state correctional system are met with the full force of the law.”

Specific details about each case were not immediately known as prosecutors filed the cases in rural White Pine County.

The prison, which is several hours north of Las Vegas, was home to Nevada’s death row until the Department of Corrections moved offenders to High Desert State Prison. The state has not put an inmate to death since 2006.
