LAS VEGAS (KLAS) The first AI-powered hotel is set to open in the Las Vegas area on July 1. Otonomous Hotel, under construction at Russell and Decatur, uses machine learning to create a personalized experience for guests.

The artificial intelligence experience kicks in before you even check in, starting with a quiz that tells the system what kind of person you are.

“It’s about creating a VIP style experience,” Martina Barbarian, vice president of experience, brand and culture for Otonomous Hotels, said.

“If you stay with a hotel a few times, they might know how many nights you’ve stayed and how much money have you spent, but do they really know what you like to eat or drink or what you like to do?” Barbarian said. “Probably not.”

Through the quiz, the AI is meant to make your stay more personal, telling restaurant staff what kind of foods or drinks you like or helping the concierge find experiences you’d enjoy in Las Vegas.

It will even set the AC and lighting in your room to exactly what you want. Rooms are apartment-style, with full kitchens and living rooms.

While it is AI-powered, the hotel won’t look like a dystopian sci-fi movie Barbarian says there is staff on-site.

“When you actually walk around the property, you’re going to see people here,” Barbarian said. “We have the best talent in the world in Las Vegas, and the technology will never, ever replace talent, ever. So, the idea is that we enhance it, and we balance it. So we will definitely have wonderful people on property staffed, working to take care of our guests.”

You can scale the experience to be as technical as you want. If you don’t want to use your phone as a key or any of the features on your room’s tablet, physical keys are available.

For any guest concerned with privacy, Barbarian said they can opt out of submitting any data to the hotel and can also delete their stored information at any time.

The Otonomous Hotel is set to open July 1 with rooms starting at $325 per night. Deals and experiences for locals are in the works as well, according to Barbarian.
