The White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood has addressed fan comments about her teeth and, refreshingly, she’s not fazed by the remarks.

In a recent interview, the 31-year-old actress shared that initially, she felt nervous about working alongside some prominent Hollywood celebrities in the popular HBO series. However, she has come to appreciate how their different lifestyles and her unique appearance make her stand out.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Aimee remarked: ‘These people live in Hollywood. I live in my little flat in South East London.

‘Being very British in my sensibilities, I was uncertain about being surrounded by individuals who exude such assertiveness and confidence. I tend to be self-deprecating,’ she mentioned.

Addressing the attention her distinct teeth receive, she remarked, ‘The discussions among The White Lotus fans regarding me and my teeth – noting that I do not have veneers or undergo Botox treatments – feel quite rebellious.’

The beauty, who shot to fame in the Netflix show Sex Education, previously told how she once thought she was ‘too ugly’ to land major roles after being tormented by bullies.

Aimee revealed to the Observer back in 2021 how she used to be bullied over her appearance when she was younger, being picked on about her body and teeth.

This led to the star, who attended top acting academy RADA before taking on meaty theatre roles at the National Theatre in London among others, believing she wouldn’t get a TV job because she was ‘too weird-looking’.

A year earlier she was asked by Stylist if her teeth were a ‘barrier’ when it came to her career, with Aimee remarking that this was not the case.

She said: ‘It’s completely in my head. It’s a myth I’ve told myself. I had it in my brain that I’m not conventional-looking enough and that’s a mental barrier I’ve had to overcome.’

However, despite her words, last month Aimee admitted that her pearly whites may have stopped her landing a role as an American character.

She said during the February On Demand Entertainment interview: ‘It’s the teeth. Like, no Americans have my teeth. They just don’t. I’d have to get veneers. Because … I think that genuinely is like one of the things.’

The actress portrays Chelsea in The White Lotus, the young girlfriend of Rick (Walton Goggins) who takes her to Thailand for a couple’s retreat but has other motivations behind the trip.

Earlier this month, Aimee described filming the series in Thailand as ‘quite extreme’, comparing the experience to a ‘social experiment’.

'I’m so British in my sensibility that I wasn’t sure how to handle being around so many people who are so front-footed and confident. All I ever do is take the p*** out of myself,' the star said

Filmed at the Four Seasons in Koh Samui, the cast stayed at the hotel for seven months, both living and filming in the accommodation.

And in a new interview, Aimee – who barely got any time off due to her large role – opened up on the ‘extreme circumstances’ surrounding the filming, admitting that she wouldn’t describe it as ‘fun’.

Speaking to the Guardian about the intensity of shooting the third season, Aimee said: ‘In the true sense, I was amazed by what was happening. How am I in Thailand? Living in a hotel, that we also film in? It was like a social experiment. In a way I will never, ever forget.

‘I will never have an experience like that again. It was so extreme. So the fun bits were unbelievable, so special. The ocean, the landscape, it was majestic. Mike [White, the director] is a genius. Everyone involved is amazing, it’s just the circumstances are quite extreme.’

The crew, cast and staff were the only people Aimee saw for the entire filming period and, while others got the opportunity to head home when their schedules allowed, Aimee wasn’t so lucky.

The Sex Education star said that, due to her central role as the chatty Mancunian, she ‘never had a big chunk of time’ to fly home to England and enjoy some away time from the intensity of living and working in the hotel.

In fact, Aimee recalled people close to her became concerned for her wellbeing, with her pal and the show’s season two star Leo Woodall often calling to check up on her as ‘he knew what it was like’.

Her make-up artist Miia Kovero insisted that Aimee had to go home as she had become so wrapped up in her role that it was hard to tell who was the actress and who was the character.

Aimee explained: ‘She was like, “You need to go home. I don’t know who I’m talking to any more, Aimee or Chelsea.” I’d completely abstracted. Everyone becomes their character to an extent, but I didn’t even know who I was.’
