Aaron Rodgers' ESPN nemesis Adam Schefter blasts quarterback over delay in NFL free agency decision

Free-agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers’s delay in choosing his next team is starting to bother his ESPN nemesis, reporter Adam Schefter.

‘To me, this shouldn’t be that hard, right?’ Schefter told the Jen, Gabe & Chewy podcast.

The New York Giants are interested in the free-agent quarterback, a league source told DailyMail.com, while multiple reports have linked Rodgers with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Attempting to make some kind of an equivalency, Schefter then directed a question at former Green Bay Packers tight end Mark ‘Chewy’ Chmura.

‘Like, Chewy, what’re you going to have for lunch?’ Schefter asked. ‘You gonna make a decision or are you gonna drag it out for four days, five days, a week? It’s not that hard. Make a decision and live with it.’

Despite a laundry list of issues on offense with the Jets in 2024, Rodgers finished eight in the NFL with 3,897 yards – more than Buffalo Bills quarterback and league MVP Josh Allen

The decision of where the 41-year-old Rodgers ends his NFL career might be more complicated than picking a lunch order, but teams, fans and other free agents are nonetheless impatient with the Super Bowl winner.

In addition to the Steelers and Giants, the Minnesota Vikings are also said to be interested in Rodgers. What’s more, his and Chmura’s former Packers teammate, Brett Favre, suggested Rodgers finish his career in the Twin Cities as he did 15 years ago.

And depending on where Rodgers signs, the teams he passed over could turn their attention to another Super Bowl winner in Russell Wilson, who is coming off his first season in Pittsburgh.

Schefter’s outrage at Rodgers follows years of bitterness between the two.

Rodgers famously told Schefter to ‘lose my number’ when the NFL insider contacted him by text message while reporting a story years earlier.

Rodgers had previously hit out at Schefter along with fellow NFL insider Ian Rapoport over their reports of his notorious four-day darkness retreat following the 2022 season.

‘Let me reiterate one more time,’ Rodgers told Pat McAfee in 2023. ‘There’s an inner circle, right? And in my inner circle, nobody talks to Ian Rapoport, to Adam Schefter or to any of those people. So, if you’re one of those people talking to those people, it’s a great reminder for you, you’re not in the inner circle.

‘If anybody is out there saying stuff or if they’re just making it up, which are both likely, just stop with the fake news,’ Rodgers added.

‘I speak for myself and I will continue to do that. I’m not upset about it. It’s classic media, trying to be first, not trying to be right.’

He later added: ‘I think Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport are really good at their jobs but when it comes to me they don’t know s***.’

Despite a laundry list of issues on offense with the Jets in 2024, Rodgers finished eight in the NFL with 3,897 yards – more than Buffalo Bills quarterback and league MVP Josh Allen. What’s more, Rodgers’ 28 touchdowns were tied for seventh with Allen.

The Giants hold the third pick in next month’s NFL Draft, and could consider quarterbacks like Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, Miami’s Cam Ward or even Ole Miss star Jaxson Dart.

And even if the Giants do add Rodgers, his presence wouldn’t preclude the team from taking a quarterback in the first round, provided that player is willing to spend the year as his understudy.
