Kevin Bernard Pinkney Jr. was arrested in connection with the double murder of 17-year-old Xavier Buggs and 19-year-old Eric Stanley, according to police.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — A man is facing murder charges in the fatal shooting of two teenagers in Brunswick last month, officials confirmed Tuesday.

Police said 24-year-old Kevin Bernard Pinkney Jr. was arrested in connection with the double murder of Xavier Buggs, 17, and Eric Stanley, 19, after an extensive investigation.

The teens were found shot around 12:30 a.m. Feb. 17, 2025, in the 3200 block of Brailsford Avenue, police said. The teens were taken to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Investigators say the shooting happened after a physical altercation involving women, which then led to both teens being shot.

Pinkney faces charges including two counts of murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are pending, police said.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Detective Melissa Howell at (912) 279-2606 or Silent Witness at (912) 267-5516.

Another teen killed weeks before double murder

On Jan. 24, a 15-year-old was shot and killed at an apartment complex in Brunswick.

Police found the teen in the 2100 block of Tillman Avenue around 3:30 p.m. following reports of gunshots in the area.

He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The family of Jerrod Foster identified him as the victim in the shooting.

Loved ones met with First Coast News on what would have been Foster’s 16th birthday. They said Foster was nicknamed “Cheesy” because he was always smiling.

Court records show that Derrick Heidt, 22, is facing charges in Foster’s death.

Community discussion held to reduce youth violence

The leadership of the City of Brunswick held a community discussion earlier this month, addressing youth violence after three teens were shot and killed weeks apart.

Brunswick Interim Police Chief Angela Smith was in attendance, hearing concerns from residents and asking parents to ensure they are watching their children, enforcing curfews and keeping them out of trouble.

“We want the community to know that we hear them, and we are aware of the crime and we are enforcing laws but we also want the community to know and parents to know that they too have an impact in this situation,” Smith said at the meeting on March 3. “We can’t do this without the response of the community and so it’s very impactful for us to work together.”
