A 44-year-old man allegedly armed with a crossbow has been arrested during a domestic violence call-out in Darwin.

Northern Territory Police received a report of a disturbance involving a man and his female partner at a home in Alawa about 11.10pm yesterday.

They arrived at the scene and, while speaking to a witness at the door, saw the man allegedly armed with a crossbow.

Police alleged he was aiming the weapon at the officers, who instructed him to drop his weapon.

The man allegedly fled to the back of the home. At this time, his partner and the witness were able to safely escape the home.

A short time later, the man allegedly dropped the crossbow and surrendered to police.

He was arrested without incident and is expected to be charged later today.

Investigations remain ongoing, and police urge anyone who may have information to come forward.
