LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Lawrence High School Fire Science students helped put out a fire Thursday night, and one former Lincoln Fire Protection District volunteer is being thanked for launching the program.

At 8:51 p.m. on March 13, the initial alarm was dispatched for a house fire in the 1400 Block of Dubois St. in Lawrenceville. To assist in the situation, Lawrenceville High School Truck 1 responded to the scene as the “extra” Truck assignment. Crews cleared the scene at 2:25 a.m.

The Lawrenceville High School Fire Science class staffs an engine and responds with the local volunteer fire departments in the area. James Calvert, a former Lincoln Fire Protection District volunteer, started this program.

During Thursday night’s residential structure fire, the following departments assisted in extinguishing efforts:

  • Lawrence-Allison Fire Department
  • Lawrenceville High School Fire Science
  • Bridgeport Fire Department
  • Christy Fire Department
  • Vincennes Township Indiana Fire Department

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
