A Glock switch is a device that allows a semi-automatic Glock pistol to function as a fully automatic machine gun.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville teenager is facing a 10-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to selling a Glock switch to undercover law enforcement agents, the Department of Justice announced in a press release Tuesday.

Acting United States Attorney Sara C. Sweeny said Andres Mejia, 19, has pleaded guilty to possessing a machine gun. A switch is classified as a machine gun under federal law.

On Aug. 13, 2024, the release says undercover agents with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) met Mejia to buy a switch.

“The ‘switch’ Mejia sold was a machine gun conversion device designed to convert a semiautomatic Glock pistol into a fully automatic machinegun,” the release states. “During the sale, Mejia explained to the undercover agents how to use the switch and offered to sell them more in the future.”

This case was investigated by JSO and the ATF. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brenna Falzetta.

According to the release, a sentencing date for Mejia has not yet been set.
