DENVER (KDVR) A video was circulating widely online over the weekend showing a masked individual walking up to a Tesla CyberTruck and scratching the surface with a key.

On Saturday, police said they were aware and opened an active investigation, but the Lakewood Police Department would not release any details “at this time.” The video was reportedly taken in a parking lot at the Colorado Mills Mall.

Police described the actions in the video as “criminal mischief.” The agency asked that anyone with information or who recognizes the person in the video speak to Jeffcom 911 at 303-980-7300, but did not provide any images from the video.

Protests of Tesla due to its CEO, billionaire Elon Musk, have grown increasingly common in the weeks since the presidential inauguration and President Donald Trump naming Musk the head of the new Department of Government Efficiency. On Saturday, the “Tesla Takedown” movement held a series of demonstrations across the country to encourage divestment from the company with a goal of hurting Musk’s wallet.

In Loveland, a 24-year-old Fort Collins resident was arrested by police in connection to an incident at the Loveland Tesla dealership on March 7. Police said an incendiary device was ignited and thrown at the Tesla building that day, ultimately landing between two vehicles.

On March 7, Loveland police told FOX31’s Kasia Kerridge that in five weeks since late January, there had been five incidents of vandalism, incendiary devices, spray painting and arson.

It was the second arrest for vandalism and criminal mischief at the dealership, which resulted in a 40-year-old suspect facing charges for allegedly vandalizing vehicles at the dealership in January “with graffiti, some of which were offensive and hateful in nature.” An incendiary device was also allegedly recovered from the scene.

On Friday, The Associated Press reported that gunshots were fired at a Tesla dealership in Oregon on Thursday for the second time in a week; and that on Sunday, four Cybertrucks were destroyed in a blaze in Seattle. But investigators have not said if the fire, or fires, were intentionally set.
