A car crash caused a power outage affecting nearly 2,000 JEA customers on Sunday evening.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A car crashed into a power pole on Jacksonville’s Westside Sunday evening knocking power out to around 5,000 JEA customers. As of 10 p.m. there were a little over 1,700 without power.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue said the crash happened at Blanding Boulevard and Morse Avenue. One person was trapped and had to be rescued. They were transported to the hospital with serious injuries, JFRD said.
According to JEA, crews will be working overnight to finish restoring power to the area. A spokesperson with the utility company said their crews need to replace the pole that was damaged and anticipate power to be restored by 2 a.m. Monday.
As of 9:45 p.m. Sunday, power was out for a little more than 1,700 customers.
“We appreciate customers’ patience while our crews work as quickly and safely as possible to restore service,” JEA said.
