CHICAGO () From the traditional dyeing of the Chicago River to the iconic St. Patrick’s Day parade, there’s a little something for everyone to enjoy while celebrating in the Windy City.

Monday marks St. Patrick’s Day, but celebrations kicked off Saturday morning in Chicago as thousands lined up to watch the 60-year-old tradition of the Chicago Plumber’s Union dumping about 40 pounds of environmentally friendly bright green dye into the Chicago River.

And no St. Patrick’s Day celebration in the city is complete without corned beef and cabbage from beloved Manny’s Deli. The restaurant, located on Chicago’s Near West Side, has been in business since 1942.

“We’re Chicago’s best corned beefed, maybe even the world’s best, so people want to come here and get a taste of it and celebrate their Chicago’s St. Patrick’s the right way,” said Dan Raskin, fourth-generation owner and operator of Manny’s Deli.

Chicago’s St. Patrick’s Day parade is one of the largest in the United States, attracting more than 100,000 spectators.

The Windy City is ranked the sixth-best place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, according to WalletHub after Worcester, Mass.; Santa Rosa, Calif.; Savannah, Ga.; Reno, Nev.; and Boston at No. 1.

St. Patrick’s Day celebrations are expected to generate $7 billion in spending this year, according to the National Retail Federation.
