Manchester United have drawn up a four-man shortlist as they look to strengthen in attacking areas this summer, according to a report.

The Red Devils are continuing to rebuild after a disappointing season, mostly under the stewardship of current boss Ruben Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag as head coach earlier this season.

They were knocked out both of the domestic cups and sit 13th in the Premier League, with their only hope of qualifying for Europe seemingly through winning the Europa League, which they are in the quarter-finals of.

Rasmus Hojlund, the club’s starting No 9, scored for the first time in 22 matches in the outing, but his struggles for goals have reflected the team’s issues in front of goal.

According to Sky’sĀ Florian Plettenberg, the club have shortlisted four strikers as potential summer targets, including a man Amorim has worked with before.

It is reported that United are keen to strengthen in attack with talks already underway in the hunt for a new No 9.

Four strikers are said to have caught the club’s eye, including Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting Lisbon – the striker who helped Amorim enjoy so much success with his former side.

The other names on the list are Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt,Ā Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig and Victor Osimhen of Napoli, but on loan at Galatasaray.

The four names are some of the most sought-after forwards in European football, with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea thought to be monitoring Sesko and Osimhen respectively.

Sesko was linked with the Gunners last summer, but stayed in Germany and has netted 17 times in 36 appearances for his club side this season.

Osimhen, meanwhile, moved to Turkey on loan from the Serie A outfit and has bagged 26 times this campaign.

Gyokeres, 26, recently played for the likes of Brighton and Coventry City when he was in England previously, but found a home in Portugal with Sporting. He has scored 40 goal this season in all competitions.

That is a stark comparison to United’s current forwards. While Hojlund has found the back of the net just eight times this campaign, his support, Joshua Zirkzee, has netted six times in 44 outings.

United’s top scorer in the league this season is captain Bruno Fernandes, who has hit form in recent weeks but still managed only eight Premier League goals in total. Second is Amad Diallo with six, but he is out injured for the rest of the season.

The club are understood to be keen to do business in the summer, with Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven the only two players signed to help Amorim in the winter.

It is unclear how much to club will be able to spend to comply with FFP rules, with aims for a new £2billion stadium revealed last week.

Still, there will likely be some business done and a striker is one of the top priorities.Ā
