Disney fans slam Rachel Zegler for paying homage to original Snow White after calling movie 'weird'

Rachel Zegler was slammed for paying “homage” to Disney’s original “Snow White” despite previously calling the animated classic “weird” and sexist.

An actress shared a picture of herself showing off a new hairstyle inspired by Adriana Caselotti, who provided the voice for Snow White in the 1937 movie “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”

Zegler posted on Instagram Sunday, expressing her admiration for the original Snow White, Adriana Caselotti. She wrote, “Just had to pay homage to the original Snow White, Miss Adriana Caselotti. To whom I owe everything ❤️.”

In the photo, the 23-year-old Broadway performer displayed her dark hair styled in a curly bob with a red bow. She gazed to the side while lifting her hands to one shoulder.

She also included a photo of Caselotti wearing a similar hairstyle and striking the same pose.

Despite the sweet moment, Disney fans flooded her comment section with disapproval given her past criticism of the original film.

“Really? you want to pay homage to her now after all the nasty stuff you have been saying about her film. Too little too late in my book,” one person commented.

“So you can pay homage to her ‘looks’ but can’t respect her story, kind of contradicts the whole idea of being a modern feminist perspective to the story, doesn’t it?” another noted.

“you talked bad about this movie and now [this] is your inspiration hahahahah,” a third laughed off.

“So you’re paying homage to somebody who is dated?” a fourth questioned.

“HOMAGE!!??? She litterally hates the og Snow-White storyline,” a user added on X.

“I thought she hated the original after all the negative things she said about it. Ironic she’s now using it to garner positive publicity,” someone else agreed.

“Wait a minute, I thought Rachel Zegler said she didn’t like the original film. She’s a huge, lying hypocrite, and even Pinocchio knows when to cut the crap!” yet another critic chimed in.

The film has been riddled with controversy ever since Disney announced that the remake was going to look drastically different than the famed fable, which included removing the beloved song “Some Day My Prince Will Come,” changing the love story and swapping the “Seven Dwarves” for a diverse group of magical creatures.

Zegler specifically found herself at the heart of the backlash when asked how she planned to bring a “modern edge” to the famous fable at the 2022 D23 Expo.

“She’s not going to be saved by the prince and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love,” she told Variety.

“She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and the leader that her late father told her that she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave and true,” she continued.

She went on to call the original “weird” during an interview with “Extra” at the same event.

“The original cartoon came out in 1937 and very evidently so. There’s a big focus on her love story with the guy who literally stalks her. Weird, weird,” she told the outlet. “So we didn’t do that this time.”

She said they took “a different approach” to the plot and that the remake is “really not about the love story at all.”

In other interviews, she revealed she wasn’t a fan of the “extremely dated” fairytale.

“I was scared of the original cartoon. I think I watched it once and then I never picked it up again,” she told Entertainment Weekly in 2022.

Disney scaled back its Hollywood premiere of the film, out March 21, due to the backlash and rumored tensions between Zegler and co-star Gal Gadot.
