Urbana man arrested on gun charges over weekend

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — A man from Urbana was arrested after police said they caught him with a gun he was prohibited from having.

The arrest happened on Saturday. Officials from the Urbana Police Department said on Facebook that officers received a report of an armed person in the area of Smith Road and Lantern Hill Drive. When they responded, the officers learned that the armed person had used their weapon to threaten another person.

Investigating further, police eventually arrested a 30-year-old man and recovered a loaded gun. Officials said the man, whom they did not name, is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing a gun.

“We commend our officers for their swift response and dedication to keeping our community safe,” officials said.
