In the Pokémon Adventures manga, there is a unique title only a few trainers hold. That term is Pokédex Holder. Professor Oak uses this term to describe a trainer given a Pokédex by a professor in that region. These trainers become some of their region’s strongest and most essential trainers.

The Pokédex holders have become a tight-knit group, bonding over their shared adventures and struggles while developing powerful teams that barely anyone can contest. If they were to battle each other, it’d indeed have fans jumping out of their seats in excitement, and sometimes, it already has. If the trainers were to fight, which would be the definitive winner?

Professor Oak’s Nickname for Silver is “The Exchanger”

Silver from Pokemon Adventures Manga

The son of Team Rocket’s Giovanni, Silver, has had a rough life. In the manga, he’s kidnapped and brainwashed at a young age and, ever since, has been trying to take down Team Rocket and the Masked Man. Silver stole a Totodile from Professor Elm and a Pokédex from Cherrygrove. He’s a character with a dark past and was one of the Gold, Silver, Crystal arc antagonists in the Pokémon manga as he served as Gold’s rival.

Silver eventually earned the right to be a Pokédex holder, especially after gaining the title of Exchanger from Professor Oak, who named him as an expert in Pokémon Trading. Silver has an exceptional mind and a powerful team, making him a real battlefield threat. His only major weakness is his lack of type diversity. With three water types and one flying type, Silver’s team has a strong weakness in electric types. He’s also, unfortunately, lacking a sixth Pokémon as he’s often trading around or having temporary allies.

Professor Oak’s Nickname for Gold is “The Hatcher”

Gold from Pokemon Adventures manga

But after seeing that Gold saw Pokémon as partners, Oak was so impressed that he gave Gold the Pokédex and the title of “Hatcher,” as he could bring out the potential of the baby Pokémon he took care of. Gold’s ability as a trainer is shown in his on-the-fly plans and his bond with his Pokémon.

Gold’s Pokémon team is really lacking, especially including Sunflora, one of the weaker grass-type Pokémon in the Johto region. He is still one of the more substantial Dex holders, thanks to Togetic and his ability to draw out the potential of a baby Pokémon. After training with Red, a remarkable feat, Gold became a fearsome trainer who fought and defeated Arceus, the God of Pokémon.

Green is the Female Kanto Protagonist in Pokémon Adventures

Professor Oak’s Nickname for Green is “The Evolver”

Green with Clefary and Jigglypuff

Green has one of the most complicated names and backstories in the manga. Her name is often confused with Blue’s because of the complicated release history of Generation 1 games. In Japan, Pokémon Red was paired with Pokémon Green, making the rival Green. However, in the West, Red was paired with Blue, so the rival became Blue. To match this change, translators switched Green’s name to Blue, leading to ongoing confusion among fans.

Green’s backstory was also tragic. She was a kidnapped child from Pallet Town and became a cunning, quick-witted thief who stole a Squirtle from Professor Oak. She got better after bonding with Red, Blue, and Professor Oak and became the “evolver” because of her knowledge of Pokémon evolution. Green’s team is a powerhouse that many Kanto fans may appreciate, from the powerful Nidoqueen to the mega-evolved Blastoise.

He’s a heavy dreamer, which gives him a one-track mind that makes it hard to think or focus on battles and be a good friend to others. Unfortunately, he doesn’t get the chance to become Champion because of Team Plasma.
