Manchester City missed the opportunity to move back into the top four as they twice surrendered the lead during their 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League.

The Cityzens were eager to bounce back from last weekend’s disappointing defeat to Nottingham Forest and found themselves with a one-goal cushion at half-time as they shaded an extremely entertaining first half.

Pervis Estupinan’s wonderful free kick had brought Brighton back on level terms after an Erling Haaland penalty opened the scoring, but Omar Marmoush’s thunderbolt from 20 yards ensured City entered the break with a narrow advantage.

That lead was extinguished just three minutes after half-time as Abdukodir Khusanov’s own goal handed Brighton another equaliser, with both sides spurning promising opportunities during the second half as the spoils were shared.

The result leaves City in fifth and Brighton in seventh as both stumbled in the hunt for Champions League qualification.
