BEAUFORT, S.C. () — Two Lowcountry high school students were detained Wednesday after they were found to have brought guns on campus, officials said.
Parents and guardians received an email Wednesday informing them of the two Battery Creek High School students who were detained. The email said that “there was no direct threat made to students or staff.”
The school also remained on lockdown status until law enforcement cleared the building after the students were detained, the email said.
Officials reminded people that having a weapon on school grounds is a serious offense and no weapons of any kind are allowed on campus.
“Any student found in possession of a weapons will face severe consequences, including criminal charges,” the email said.
There will be an extra law enforcement presence on campus for the week.
Officials ask that if there are additional concerns to reach out to school administration, and if you or your child ever become aware of a potential threat, please report it immediately to law enforcement or school administration.
