Boygenius fans have been anticipating this moment for a while now, but that doesn’t make it any less exciting. Lucy Dacus is now promoting her fourth solo album, Forever is a Feeling, which will come out on March 28, and since it’s all about falling in love, she apparently thought it would be the perfect time to reveal what her fans were already expecting: she and her bandmate, Julien Baker, are in love.
Phoebe Bridgers, of course, was incredibly excited for her bandmates and close friends. She was very supportive of their decision to announce it, and shared her love for them with a sweet Instagram post.
Lucy Dacus Announced Her Relationship With Julien Baker
Lucy and Julien, alongside Phoebe Bridgers, have made waves with their indie supergroup, Boygenius, ever since they put out their first full-length album, The Record, in 2023. Their concerts were a celebration of female friendship. They would kiss freely, fall on top of each other, and openly express their love. But for Lucy and Julien, it was something more.
During a recent interview with The New Yorker, Lucy Dacus revealed that she and Julien Baker are now in a “committed relationship,” and are even living together in Los Angeles. They quietly moved in together in the fall of 2024, after the first Boygenius world tour.
“It’s so interesting how home just moves,” Lucy said in the interview.
“I was once debating with a therapist whether I should move or not. She was, like, ‘Your sense of home might move before you do.’ L.A. just felt like the strongest magnet.”
Lucy admitted that she was reluctant to make the relationship public, as it felt too important to risk. She even found it hard to reference their romance in her new songs.
“It’s been interesting, because I want to protect what is precious in my life, but also to be honest, and make art that’s true,” she explained.
But also, in choosing to share it, she realized she needed to trust that their relationship was strong enough to handle the pressures.
“I think maybe a part of it is just trusting that it’s not at risk. Maybe a healthier way to think about it is that it’s not actually fragile.”
Phoebe Bridgers’s Reaction To The Announcement
It’s safe to say Phoebe had a front-row seat to the development of her bandmates’ romance, and she couldn’t be happier for them. The three of them are incredibly close, and after the interview with The New Yorker came out, she showed her support on her Instagram stories.
She posted a photo of the three of them, only her face and the background were blurred out and a heart was framing Lucy and Julien.
Lucy explained that even though she and Julien are a couple, the three of them still hang out together as friends and are just as close. But don’t get excited, there won’t be any new Boygenius music any time soon.
“We do hang out, we do see each other, but we talk about just our lives,” she explained. “If we were always talking about Boygenius, it would crumble. You go back to the well too many times, it dries up. So as of now, nothing to report.”
