A glamorous sorority girl who set the internet ablaze for her stunning mugshot has now revealed the embarrassing mistake that led to her arrest.

Lily Stewart, 20, was taken into custody on March 8 after being caught driving 84mph in a 55mph zone, according to a disposition.

She has now shared more information about how she ended up in the back of a police car. She admitted that although she was initially let go after being stopped for speeding, she eventually found herself in trouble.

It was only when she got back on the road and immediately started speeding again that she was cuffed.

‘It was the second time speeding that got me arrested,’ Stewart admitted in an interview with the New York Post

While driving in the opposite direction, the officer noticed her speeding. Despite their friendly interaction and receiving just a warning initially, she ended up with a ticket.

After driving off, she unintentionally exceeded the speed limit again. Before she could correct her mistake, the officer stopped her and ultimately arrested her.

Stewart says the road she was driving on is a quiet country road where it is easy to lose track of speed, adding the area was ‘completely empty’.

The college student attends the University of Georgia and is a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.

She was arrested in Morgan County by an officer in the sheriff’s department, which borders Athens, where the university is located.

Georgia’s Super Speeder line fines drivers an extra $200 for traveling over 75 mph on two-lane roads or 85 mph on highways.

In some areas of the state fines for speeding can be up to $1,000, and unpaid fines can result in license suspension.

However, Stewart’s charge was dismissed and she walked away without having to pay a hefty fine.

She also seemed to luck out in the court of public opinion, as the internet quickly flocked to her social media accounts to praise her mugshot.

Hundreds of comments quickly piled up on a post of the photo with one writing, ‘Whatever she did my heart says she’s innocent.’

‘They done locked up miss America,’ another wrote on social media.

‘Got a super speeder ticket running to this post,’ a third joked under one of her recent Instagram posts.

The recent flood of attention didn’t seem to bother Stewart, who said she had a sense of humor about the comments.

She posted her favorite reactions in a carousel on her TikTok account and said in an interview with TMZ that she thought the comments were funny.

‘I understand – it’s surprising that I got arrested for speeding and my mugshot – I was smiling because I always smile for a photo,’ she said.

Stewart also revealed that she has received ‘gross comments’ after going viral, but admitted that she doesn’t let it get under her skin.

She was alerted to the internet attention by her mother, who called her while she was in class to tell her that a Facebook post of her mugshot had over 500 comments.

Stewart joked that she’s even received direct messages from men on Instagram offering to pay her bail.
