Ted Lasso fans everywhere were shocked to learn the hit Apple TV+ series was returning for a fourth season.

The news was made all the more better as it became increasingly clear that most of the beloved cast will be returning to reprise their roles, except for some notable exceptions.

Jason Sudeikis is confirmed to reprise his award-winning role as Coach Ted Lasso, in addition to his role as co-creator, executive producer and co-showrunner. Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Juno Temple and Jeremy Swift are also reportedly in negotiations to return for Season 4. Brendan Hunt, who plays Coach Beard, has also not officially reprised his role but is still writing/producing Season 4.

Though Ted Lasso Season 3 ended with Coach Lasso (Sudeikis) returning to his family in Kansas after leaving Richmond, Season 4 will be taking the show in a slightly different direction as Coach Lasso returns back across the pond to coach Keeley (Temple) and Rebecca’s (Waddingham) AFC Richmond women’s team, promising a whole new cast of characters for viewers to enjoy.

“As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap,’” Sudeikis said in the press release announcing the news. “In season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”

Who will not be returning to Ted Lasso Season 4?

Deadline reports child actor Gus Turner will not be reprising his role as Ted’s son.

According to the report, Season 4 will show the 12-year-old developing into a skilled soccer player. Turner was invited to re-audition for the role but it’s believed the actor who takes the role will need to have some soccer skills for Season 4. Fans will get their first look at Ted’s son in Season 4, Episode 1, which will reportedly take place in Kansas before he returns to Richmond, per Deadline.

The outlet also notes that it remains unclear if Andrea Anders, who plays Ted’s ex-wife in the first three seasons, will be reprising her role.

One star who will also be noticeably absent from Season 4 is audience favorite Phil Dunster, who played bad boy-turned-good Jamie Tartt. Dunster was unable to commit to Season 4 due to scheduling conflicts with Apple’s Surface and Prime Video’s The Devil’s Hour.

Writing on Season 4 is currently underway with production expected to begin in July, which could mean fans should prepare for a 2026 premiere date.
